Spearhead
Add to album

These bronze spearhead is one of two found at Murrayfield in Edinburgh. The hoard was buried between 950 and 750 BC.

The leaf-shaped spearhead has a pronounced midrib and lines outlining the edge of the blade. It has a rivet hole through the socket for pegging the spearhead to the wooden shaft.

Spears were used both for fighting and for hunting. Some were designed to be thrusting weapons, while other lighter examples were designed to be thrown.
