Spearhead

This bronze spearhead was found at Burghead in Moray. It dates from between 950 and 750 BC.

The leaf-shaped spearhead is missing its point and is damaged at the mouth of the socket.

Offerings to the gods were often special material, treated in special ways or put in special places, such as water. Prestigious weapons are sometimes found broken, probably sacrificed as part of a ceremony we can only guess about.
