The location where this bronze axehead was found is not known, but the form of the axehead is similar to others found in Scotland. It dates from between 1500 and 1200 BC.
The long narrow axehead has short cast flanges. The flanges stopped vertical motion in the haft and stop ridges prevented the axe from being pushed back into the haft and splitting it when used.
A large number of bronze axeheads dating to the Bronze Age have been found. Some were clearly everyday objects, used to chop trees and other woodwork. Other were prestige objects, and must have been symbols of power.
