Chair purchased by Adam Galt

Dining chair of mahogany and velvet, part of a dining-room suite purchased by Adam Galt, Edinburgh, c. 1903

This mahogany dining chair was made by Wylie & Lochhead of Glasgow during the first decade of the 20th century. It is one of a set of six which accompany a dining table purchased by Galt for his home in around 1903.

Galt may have been the son of one of the founders of Wilson and Galt, cabinet and chair makers of Beith (Crummock Park Works) in Ayrshire, founded around 1870.
