Fashion plate, from Les Modes Parisiennes
Add to album

This hand-coloured fashion plate is from a scrap album containing a selection of 19th century plates. The plate is from Les Modes Parisiennes, a ladies' fashion magazine published in Paris from 1843-75. It is signed, 'A Paul Lacourriere' and 'Compte-Calix'.

The plate illustrates day wear for women. The outdoor outfit on the left is trimmed with fur. The indoor day dress on the right is trimmed at the back with a large bow.

Les Modes Parisiennes was first published in 1843 and remained in circulation until 1875. One of its chief artists was François-Claudins Compte-Calix, a reputable artist who, for many years, exhibited watercolours at the Paris Salon.
