Fashion plate, possibly from The World of Fashion
Add to album

This hand-coloured fashion plate is from a scrap album containing a selection of 19th century fashion plates. The plate may possibly be from The World of Fashion, a magazine published in London. The plates's title is, 'Newest Fashions for October 1829'.

The outfits include morning dresses for two ladies and a young girl. The figure on the left is wearing a fancy dress costume entitled, 'Royal Oak Archer'. The plate was engraved by W. Alais.

The World of Fashion was in publication from 1824 until 1891. Its plates were slightly larger than others of the time and they generally contained up to six figures. William Wolfe Alais produced good quality plates for this magazine during its early years of publication.
