Fashion plate, from La Belle Assembleé

This hand-coloured fashion plate is from La Belle Assembleé, a ladies' monthly magazine published in London. The plate illustrates an opera costume and appeared in issue no 15 of the New Series on 1 March 1826.

The fur-lined cloak or mantle has two sets of sleeves at different levels. The head is elaborately decorated with large feathers.

The full title of La Belle Assembleé was 'Bell's Court and Fashionable Magazine addressed particularly to the Ladies'. It contained information on London and Paris fashions and included many interesting advertisements for cosmetics and beauty aids.
