This share transfer certificate is of the Glasgow, Paisley, Kilmarnock and Ayr Railway Company. It is dated June, 1840.

The certificate states that 18 shares, numbered 7836 to 7853, are to be transferred from James Dunlop, Robert Buchanan, Thomas Buchanan and Donald Smith to George Douglas.

In Scotland a network of steam-operated railways grew from the early 1830s, many using the Scots gauge of 4ft 6in (1.37m). There was no link with railways in England until 1848.
