Writing box, suzuribako

This is the cover of a writing box, suzuribako. Inside there are several compartments where cards and pens would be kept. It also contains an ink slab and a copper water pot.

The design of three monkeys and the reflected moon is in raised gold and red lacquer (takamakie), with pewter and mother of pearl inlay on a brown lacquer background.
