This pewter measure for an Imperial gill was made around 1826, possibly in Edinburgh.

The baluster measure has a flat lid and an 'embryo shell' thumb-piece.

Pewter was commonly used for measures and drinking vessels as it was both fairly cheap and strong enough to stand up to to the rigours of tavern life.
