Measure

This pewter measure for one Imperial pint dates was made around 1826 by William Scott, a pewterer based in Edinburgh's West Bow.

The baluster measure has a flat lid and an 'embryo shell' thumb-piece. The rim is stamped with the initials 'C.O.', 'C.B: 1 P.T.', the initials 'V.R.' (for Victoria Regina [Queen Victoria]), the excise mark 'EDr' (for Edinburgh) on either side of an imperial crown, the word 'PINT', and the initials 'R.W.' above 'D.G.' (for the Dean of Guild of Pewterers). The Dean of Guild was responsible for ensuring the measure was correct.

There were at least two pewterers called William Scott working in the West Bow in Edinburgh in the late 18th and early 19th century.
