Measure

This pot-bellied pewter measure for an Imperial quarter gill was made in Edinburgh in the early 19th century.

The measure has a loop handle and no lid. It is inscribed 'QUARTER GILL' and is stamped with various Victorian and Edwardian verification marks.

Measures such as these were tested initially by the Dean of Guild of the city to verify that they were correct. Once they had passed the test they were stamped with a verification mark.
