Measure

This baluster pewter measure dates from the early 19th century. The measure has a loop handle and no lid.

Pot-bellied pewter measure with a loop handle, lidless type, Scottish, early 19th century

Pewter was commonly used for measures and drinking vessels as it was both fairly cheap and strong enough to stand up to to the rigours of tavern life.
