Measure

This rare pewter measure for a half-gill dates from the late 18th century. It was probably made in Glasgow.

The measure has thistle-shaped body and no handle. It is marked on the rim with the Glasgow verification mark.

Pewter was commonly used for measures and drinking vessels as it was both fairly cheap and strong enough to stand up to to the rigours of tavern life.
