This earthenware jug is from Leigh Hook, near Strathaven in Lanarkshire. It dates from between the 14th and 16th century.

The green glazed jug has a disc base but the handle is now missing.

Strathaven (pronounced 'Straiven') was an important weaving centre in the 19th century. Today, there is a fine collection of pottery and porcelain in the John Hastie Museum in the town.
