Slate disc from the rubble in the basement of Cramalt South Tower, Meggetland, Selkirkshire, 16th - 17th century

The Megget valley, or 'Meggetland' as it was commonly called, was an outlying district of the ancient forest of Ettrick, a hunting preserve created by David I during the 12th century. Cramalt was an important strategic site in the valley and the tower is first mentioned in 1530.
