Add to album

This bronze belt attachment was found in the field containing the ruins of Kilspindie Castle in Aberlady in East Lothian. It dates from the 17th century and was probably one of the fittings used to carry a sword when dressed in civilian clothes.

The attachment has an oval mount and an S-shaped fastener.

Kilspindie or Kilspindley Castle was built in 1585, between the village of Aberlady and the shore.
