The blank of this earthenware vase was made by Maling and Sons, potters in Newcastle-on-Tyne, and decorated by Richard Amour at the Bough Pottery Studio in Edinburgh.

The vase has flowers and fruit hanging from a check border, in a variety of underglaze colours. 'R.A.', 'BOUGH', 'LXV', and '242B' have been painted on the vase, while 'MADE IN / SCOTLAND' has been stamped.

The Bough Pottery Studio was founded in Edinburgh by Elizabeth Amour, a graduate of Glasgow School of Art, in 1913. She was joined by four other members of her family in the early 1920s. The Studio continued in operation until 1942, decorating biscuit-ware blanks bought in from various factories in Scotland and England.
