This earthenware bowl was decorated by Richard Amour at the Bough Pottery Studio in Edinburgh around 1930.

The light grey bowl is overpainted with a darker grey drip effect, and has been crackle glazed. Painted on base is 'R.A. Bough XL' and '5/170 S'.

The Bough Pottery Studio was founded in Edinburgh by Elizabeth Amour, a graduate of Glasgow School of Art, in 1913. She was joined by four other members of her family in the early 1920s. The Studio continued in operation until 1942, decorating biscuit-ware blanks bought in from various factories in Scotland and England.
