Aeroplane engine, probably used in Fairchild Cornell training aeroplane

This Fairchild Ranger aero-engine was made around 1940 by the Fairchild Engine and Airplane Corporation of New York. It was probably used in a Fairchild Cornell, a United States two-seat primary training aeroplane.

The six-cylinder, 200-horsepower engine is marked 'RANGER AIRCRAFT ENGINES DIVISION OF FAIRCHILD ENGINE & AIRPLANE CORP., FARMINGDALE, NEW YORK. AAF OR BUREAU MODEL L-440 7'. It has two sets of plugs and two distributors mounted on the top rear of the crank case.

As in the case of the Fairchild Cornell, the United States often named their training aircraft after their universities.
