This bronze spiral finger ring, made by coiling a rod into three coils, was found at the site of the Roman fort at Newstead in Roxburghshire. It dates from between 80 and 180 AD.

The Romans brought the fashion of wearing finger rings to Britain. The most common type was a heavy metal hoop, narrow at the back and swelling to a broader bezel in which an oval gemstone was often set. However, other forms such as this one were also worn.
