Stud

This large, flat brass stud was found at the site of the Roman fort at Newstead in Roxburghshire. It may have been attached to a leather harness, or perhaps a belt. The object dates from between 80 and 180 AD.

Large flat circular stud of brass, from the Roman site at Newstead, Roxburghshire, 80 - 180 AD

Leather on harnesses rarely survives, but the metal fittings and ornaments are often preserved. A large number of studs, mounts, and strap junctions were found at Newstead.
