This transfer-printed earthenware soup plate was exported to South East Asia by the Glasgow potters, J. and M.P. Bell and Company. It dates from between 1842 and 1880.

The pattern is called 'HARVEST'. The centre shows figures lifting sheaves of corn. The border design consists of four identical scenes showing a country cottage with cows and trees. These are divided by a knotwork pattern of snowdrop heads.

Bells started exporting by the 1860s. Their trade with South East Asia was particularly important.
