This transfer-printed earthenware soup plate was made by the Glasgow potters, J. and M.P. Bell and Company. It dates from between 1842 and 1880 and was exported to South East Asia and collected there.

The pattern is called 'VICTORIA REGIA'. The centre shows large water lily leaves and buds. The border pattern consists of three groups of fuchsia and three groups of another flower species.

Bells started exporting by the 1860s. Their trade with South East Asia was particularly important.
