This transfer-printed earthenware masonic jug is marked 'JOHN HAY/GLASS & CHINA/MERCHANT/GREENOCK'. It dates from the 19th century.

The bell-shaped body is decorated with masonic emblems which include a pair of compasses, an ark, an anchor, a beehive, an apron, a trowel, a coffin and many others.
