Jug (piece)

This piece of slip-glazed redware dates from the 19th century and may originally have been a jug. It has stumps of a missing handle and part of a rim which flares outwards.

The pale yellow bands around the pot are known as slip - clay thinned to a watery paste for decorating, casting or cementing.
