This glazed earthenware plaque was originally thought to have been made by one of the potteries at Prestonpans in East Lothian. However, it is very similar to a plaque made and marked by Greenock Pottery in 1818.

The plaque shows a baccharal group in high relief. The figures are depicted enjoying a drunken party or orgy.

Bacchus was the ancient Greek and Roman God of wine and revelry.
