This bronze cooking pot was found at Thirlestane Castle at Lauder in Berwickshire. It dates from between the 14th and 16th century.

The three-legged pot has a globular body, an out-turned rim and two handles.

Thirlestane Castle dates from 1590, when John Maitland of Thirlestane built a square tower house. In the 1670s, this was remodelled by William Bruce who created today's castle, a massive red sandstone structure with a central six-storey block.
