Miniature stool

This wooden model stool, dating from the early 20th century, belonged to Mrs Reid of Tyninghame, whose husband, Thomas Reid, was stud groom to the 11th Earl of Haddington. It is not clear what the purpose of the stool was.

Made from five scraps of wood and painted black, this was a common Scottish form of stool, with a hole in the centre of the seat and a box-like construction.
