Chair

This elm chair was probably made early in the 19th century in the Leadhills area where it remained until 1961.

Wooden armchair from a country cottage near Leadhills, 1800 - 1850

The chair would have been made by a local wright and was a plain interpretation of contemporary fashionable chairs. Unlike these, however, it would probably not have been one of a set of six, eight or more.
