Snuffers are used to trim or cut off the charred end of a candle wick. These steel snuffers date from the late 18th or early 19th century.

The scissors-type snuffers have a rectangular box into which the end of the wick is transferred when it is cut off. The snuffers stand on two small legs; a third, on one of the handles is missing.
