Snuffers are used to trim or cut off the charred end of a candle wick. These brass snuffers were made in the early 19th century, probably on mainland Europe.

The scissors-type snuffers have a box into which the end of the wick is transferred when it is cut off. There is an ornamental foliage pattern on the top and sides of the box. The arms have moulded handles without loops.
