Lamp

This paraffin lamp was made in Britain in the 19th century. It is a form of carriage lamp.

The lamp is inscribed 'LYNLIGHT / No. 1 / BRITISH MAKE' and 'SHERWOODS / TRADE / MARK / SOUND / LIMITED'. It is made of tin with a wick holder of brass and porcelain, a hood with a smoke dispersal plate, and plain and red glass windows. The plain window would have faced forward on a carriage, while the red would have acted as a rear warning light.
