Lamp, for use in railway carriage
Add to album

This candle-powered lamp dates from the 19th century. Lamps such as these were personal items carried by rail passengers for use in railway carriages.

The lamp consists of a tinned brass cylinder, in which a candle is held, kept in place by a steel spring. The barrel of the cylinder swivels to reveal or obscure the glazed candle chamber. Below is a brass label with the Royal coat-of-arms.
