Candlestick

This cast iron candlestick was found in a peat moss at Beawick at Sandsting in Shetland. It dates from the 17th or 18th century.

The candlestick has a domed base, a baluster stem with a wide drip pan, and a vertical socket. There is a hole to feed the drip tray with molten wax.
