Wooden pail

This wooden pail was found at Gunnister in Northmavine in Shetland, along with the body of a man. The pail dates from the late 17th century.

The base of the pail is solid and the sides are made from wooden staves. These are held together by two bands, the upper made of twisted wands, the lower of wood. At the top there are two holes on one side and one on the other.
