Add to album

This is the obverse of a copper halfpenny trade token of John Ferrier of Perth. Dated 1797, the token was manufactured by Kempson and designed by James Wright Junior. The die-sinker was Willets.

The obverse depicts St John's Church with the arms of Perth underneath. The Latin motto for the arms - 'PRO REGE LEGE ET GREGE' - translates as 'For the king, the law and the flock'.

Ferrier was a Perth hosier and had only six dozen of these tokens struck, some in silver.
