Trade token (obverse), of Thomson's Warehouse, Edinburgh

This is the obverse of a copper farthing trade token of Thomson's Warehouse in Edinburgh.

The obverse depicts a crown in the centre surrounded by the text, 'Thomson's Warehouse Edinburgh'.

In the second half of the 18th century trades and companies began issuing trade tokens to alleviate the shortage of short change.
