Trade token (obverse), Halfpenny, of Henry Harrison, Edinburgh
Add to album

This is the obverse of a copper halfpenny trade token of Henry Harrison of Edinburgh, who may possibly have been a buckle maker. The token is dated 1796.

The obverse is inscribed with the interwoven initials of the issuer - 'HH'.

Circulated locally, trade tokens could be used to buy goods or redeemed for regal coinage. They were also an ideal way for a company to advertise its wares.
