Wallpaper, with scenes commemorating South African War 1899-1902

This roll of wallpaper, dating from around 1900, is machine printed with scenes commemorating the South African War of 1899-1902.

Groups of soldiers and horses are shown in various battle positions. The scenes are printed on a buff background.

The South African War has been described as the 'first media war'. Scottish soldiers were highly visible by their distinctive Highland garb and were brought to public's attention through coverage in the rapidly expanding popular press.
