Pendant

This pendant made of jet or a material which resembles jet was found at Luce Sands, at Glenluce in Wigtownshire. It was carved into the the shape of a boar's tusk. The object was probably used as an amulet sometime between 1000 BC and 1000 AD.

'Jet' skeuomorphic tusk pendant, from Glenluce, Wigtownshire, 1000 BC - 1000 AD

Some animals such as deer, birds, or boars held a special significance for people. So long-lived were the beliefs, that when objects are found without further context, such as this one, they must be dated within a very large margin.
