Bronze strap mount for a horse harness

This bronze strap mount for a horse harness was found at the site of the Roman outpost fort at Strageath in Perthshire. It was used by a member of the auxiliary cavalry between 80 and 180 AD.

One end of the mount is incomplete.

Leather on harnesses rarely survives, but the metal fittings and ornaments are often preserved. The Roman auxiliary cavalry had both simple and elaborate harnesses.
