This iron missile head is an object meant to be thrown at an enemy, perhaps from a throwing spear. This example was found at the site of the royal hillfort at Dunadd in Argyllshire. It dates between 400 and 900 AD.

Iron missile head from Dunadd, Argyll, 400 - 900 AD

The hillfort at Dunadd was a major stronghold of the Scots. Strong defences were built, testimony to the turbulent times, as are the weapons found there. Historical sources suggest it was a royal site. Other finds reveal a wealthy and high status society.
