Souvenir dish from the Glasgow International Exhibition

This glass dish commemorates the Glasgow International Exhibition of 1888. It was made in Scotland or England.

The dish has a scalloped edge and is moulded in low relief with thistles and the inscriptions: 'GLASGOW / INTERNATIONAL / EXHIBITION / MAY / 1888' and 'LET GLASGOW FLOURISH'.

Edinburgh hosted international exhibitions in 1886 and 1907, and Glasgow in 1888 and 1901. These were large events where Scottish produce, from railway engineering to pottery, vied with international exhibits.
