Wemyss ware sugar bowl
Add to album

This Wemyss ware sugar bowl was made between around 1883 and 1930 at Robert Heron & Sons' pottery at Kirkcaldy in Fife. It was part of a breakfast set that also comprised a tray, cup and saucer, teapot and milk jug.

The sugar bowl is hand-painted with black cockerels on either side and the word 'Bonjour'. It is stamped `T Goode & Co South Audley St London W'.

Heron's Fife Pottery is perhaps best known for its brightly painted, highly fashionable and expensive Wemyss Ware. The characteristic freely-painted decoration was introduced by Karel Nekola, a Czech who arrived in Kirkcaldy in 1883.
