Wemyss ware cup and saucer
Add to album

This Wemyss ware cup and saucer was made between around 1883 and 1930 at Robert Heron & Sons' pottery at Kirkcaldy in Fife. It was part of a breakfast set that also comprised a tray, teapot, sugar bowl and milk jug.

The cup and saucer are hand-painted with a black cockerel and the word 'Bonjour'. They are both stamped `T Goode & Co South Audley St London W'.

Heron's Fife Pottery is perhaps best known for its brightly painted, highly fashionable and expensive Wemyss Ware. The characteristic freely-painted decoration was introduced by Karel Nekola, a Czech who arrived in Kirkcaldy in 1883.
