This plaque or works plate is from a locomotive built in 1894 for the Highland Railway by Sharp, Stewart and Co. of the Atlas Works in Glasgow.

By the late 19th century Glasgow was dominating British locomotive construction. The companies of Neilson Reid, Dubs & Sharp and Stewart amalgamated in 1903 to form the North British Locomotive Company, the largest in Europe with more than 7500 workers.
