Paperweight associated with the opening of the Forth Railway Bridge
Add to album

This paperweight was made from a rivet head of the type used on the Forth Railway Bridge.

The domed rivet head is engraved with a view of the completed bridge within a surround of thistles. Above the bridge is the text 'Forth Bridge Steel Punching' and the date '1890'.

The Forth Bridge was completed on the 4 March 1890 when the Prince of Wales (later Edward VII) ceremoniously drove the final rivet into the structure. Eight million rivets were used in the construction of the bridge.
