Silver milk jug made in India, 1896 - 1906

This milk jug is part of a silver tea service made in India between around 1896 and 1906. The tea service was given to the Reverend Robert Dewar in 1906 on his retirement from a United Free Church in Calcutta.

The milk jug is elaborately decorated with friezes of Hindu deities.

At the United Free Church in Calcutta, the Reverend Robert Dewar ministered to the European population of the city.
