Pulley (Fragments)

These fragments of a wooden pulley were recovered from the wreck of HMS Dartmouth which sunk in a storm off Duart Point in Mull in 1699.

One of ten unnumbered wooden pieces including blocks, from H.M.S. Dartmouth, lost off Duart Castle in 1699, 17th century

HMS Dartmouth was part of a naval force intended to prevent Jacobites in Ireland and Scotland linking up and to harass the lands of clans loyal to the Jacobites. When the ship sank almost all the crew was lost.
